Introduction

Sounds of the two-letter hiragana such as きゃ(kya), きゅ(kyu), and きょ(kyo) are called 拗音ようおん (yōon). Also sounds of ぎゃ (gya), ぎゅ (gyu) and ぎょ (gyo) are called yōon with 濁点だくてん (dakuten).

*Dakuten is『 ゛』attached to the upper right of the hiragana such as が (ga) and ぎ  (gi).

The small letter “ゃ” (ya), “ゅ” (yu) or “ょ” (yo) is added after the letter of “き” (ki), “し”  (shi), “ち” (chi), “に” (ni), “ひ”, (hi), “み” (mi), “り” (ri), “ぎ” (gi), “じ” (ji), “び” (bi) or “ぴ” (pi).
